As we welcome the new year, we remain committed to our Shareholders and to our most precious resource—our land. In 2024, we created a video series to highlight the importance of protecting our land. You may have seen some of the shorter videos on our social media. If not, please feel free to check these out as well. We are excited to share the final video in this series. We encourage you to watch it, share it with friends and family, and join us in our efforts to preserve and protect this beautiful land.
Our land is our legacy, passed down from generation to generation. It’s our responsibility to protect it for future generations, but illegal hunting and illegal land access threaten our future. These actions destroy habitats, disrupt ecosystems, and endanger our wildlife. We encourage visitors and community members to know when they are on SNC Land, what the restrictions are, and to always be mindful of the footprint left behind long after returning home. Join us in safeguarding our future. Hunt responsibly, respect the land and preserve our heritage for those who will come after us. Let one of our Iñupiaq values, Kammakłui Nunamiituat (reverence toward nature), continue to guide us as a corporation and in our lives. Our land not only provides for us but is a direct link to our past and our future.
Please keep in mind that Sitnasuak land use requires a permit for any type of camping, mining, material extraction, and/or special land use. When unauthorized use of the land is brought to the attention of the Sitnasuak land staff, the Land Use Policy and appropriate laws will be referenced to form a statement to the parties involved. More information is available on our website. If you ever have any questions about SNC Land, please do not hesitate to reach out to us via email at land@snc.org or by calling (Nome office) 907-387-1200 or (Anchorage office) 907-929-7000. You can also find permits for land access and more information on our website, snc.org.
Quyana to our Shareholders, Barb Amarok, Charles Ellanna, Josie Bourdon, Cameron Piscoya, and Dawn Salesky, for your assistance in telling this important story.
