53 years ago today, the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) was signed into law, marking a historic event for both Alaska Natives and Indigenous land rights.
Our elders have often shared that, with a single signature, we positioned ourselves at the forefront of change and corporate growth while remaining true to the values passed down from our ancestors.
Join us in thanking and honoring the tremendous efforts of those who came before us.

If you are also interested, Denali Media produced a panel discussion for the Ted Stevens Foundation with several Alaskans who were an integral part of the ANCSA effort passing. One of the interviewees is the late Cynthia Ahwinona, an original SNC Shareholder. We appreciate hearing these stories and thank our ancestors for preserving what we know and what they knew to be our most valuable asset: the land. As Joseph Upickson, said, addressing the Alaska Federation of Natives in 1971, “We Inupiaq Eskimos have never wanted money… we wanted land. Because out of the land we would make our money, we will protect our subsistence living and we will still have our heritage.”
Quyana to our elders. Quyana, thank you for taking the time to learn more about what made us a corporation.
