We are proud to share the news of Sitnasuak Descendant Nyché Skavaq Sivulliuqti Tyme Andrew, Yup’ik and Inupiaq, daughter of Jacqueline Walluk and Tigran A. Andrew, who graduated in May 2025 from Yale University with a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Political Science, along with a certification in Education Studies.
Nyché is also a Shareholder of the Bering Straits Native Corporation and Calista Corporation, as well as a member of the Nome Eskimo Community.
She was one of 11 students out of her class of 1,650 to be recognized during graduation for her contributions to Yale. She received the James Andrew Haas Prize, a distinguished award that honors her academic achievement, strength of character, and leadership among her peers. Her efforts to introduce Native foods across Yale dining halls for Indigenous Peoples Day and her groundbreaking research on Indian Boarding Schools are just a few ways Nyché has significantly impacted Yale University. She also played a key role in establishing the grassroots efforts for a new Native and Indigenous Studies Certificate at Yale, which is set to launch in 2027. In an interview with Yale Daily News, Nyché shared, “This step will raise a greater consciousness of the study and validate the unique and valuable gift of knowledge Indigenous peoples have to offer the academic world.”
We are incredibly proud of your achievements, Nyché, and we look forward to your future, as well as the future you have created for our youth through your dedication, determination, and cultural innovation.
