The Shareholder Executive Leadership Program (SELP) was created in 2012 to develop the next generation of shareholder leaders. David Hoffman, Sitnasuak Native Corporation CEO championed the SELP Program in aims to advance the business management, entrepreneurial and leadership skills of shareholder employees.
Each quarter, the SELP participants meet for facilitated discussion and exercises as well as case studies presented by various professionals. SELP participants also meet individually with Tim Pearson, Professional Coach to discuss personal goals and objectives. Additionally, Charles Fagerstrom, Sitnasuak Native Corporation President sponsors the program by providing support, guidance, coaching and written feedback.
In July SELP participants met in Anchorage for a session focused on, “Action & Learning: Models for Strategic Action”. Willie L. Iggiagruk Hensley, Author, Professor, and Alaska Native leader was the lunch speaker. Willie provided SELP participants a background into the creation and history of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). Brittany Brown, Market Research Manager presented the case study, which focused on SNC Technical Services (SNCT) in Puerto Rico. Brittany recently completed the SELP Program. This fall Brittany will begin graduate studies at Texas A&M University focusing on Industrial Distribution and Business Administration.
Chrystie Salesky, Sitnasuak Foundation Coordinator and Shareholder Assistant, Dave Evans, Nome Shareholder Liaison, and Shawn Takak, Project Administrator were also introduced as new SELP participants during this session.
SELP members are selected by a panel composed of the President, CEO and Program Coordinator. The SELP Program does not select students based solely on job performance, but also on initiative, team work, and critical thinking skills.
Chrystie is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. “I believe SELP will enhance my professional career because I have the opportunity to network with different people within Sitnasuak. I now may use them as resources, if I need help with a project I am working on,” said Chrystie.
Dave is the son of Laura and the late Robert Evans. Dave attended Alaska Technical Training School in Anchorage.
“As a shareholder and Sitnasuak employee, I am always looking forward to learning. Through the SELP Program I would like to continue to learn new things and be a better person. I hope to pass along the knowledge gained through SELP to fellow employees,” said Dave.
Shawn earned a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and he is currently working on his master’s degree in Engineering Management, both from the University of Alaska Anchorage.
“I hope to gain guidance on a personal level from Tim, and I hope that I can earn a leadership position in the company as new opportunities arise,” said Shawn.
